Up to 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed in July 1995 when Bosnian Serb rebel forces overran the UN-protected enclave of Srebrenica.
During the celebrations, the remains of some 600 victims will be buried at the two-year-old memorial cemetery in the nearby town of Potocari, alongside 1,300 already laid to rest there. Their bodies were found in mass graves around Srebrenica.
Survivors, local guests, and presidents of countries in the region are attending the ceremonies, including Serbian President Boris Tadic, despite calls from some Serb nationalists not to go.
