Fourth Anniversary Of Mas'ud Assassination

Mas'ud is still revered in Afghanistan 9 September 2005 -- Today marks the fourth anniversary of the attack that killed Afghan resistance commander Ahmad Shah Mas'ud.

Mas'ud, who led fighters against Soviet invaders and the Northern Alliance against the Taliban regime, was attacked on 9 September 2001 in a bombing by two men posing as journalists.

The attack on the ethnic Tajik, which has been blamed on the Al-Qaeda terrorist network, came two days before the 11 September terror assaults on New York and Washington.
