First Iraqi Passenger Plane Lands In Teheran

(RFE/RL) 6 October 2005 -- The first Iraqi passenger plane to land in Tehran for 25 years arrived from Baghdad today.

The Boeing 737 of Iraqi Airways landed at Tehran's Mehrabad airport and was due to return home later today. Regular flights between Tehran and Baghdad are officially scheduled to start on 15 November, twice a week, on Wednesdays
and Fridays.

Iranian airlines have not yet decided to start flights to Baghdad but are reportedly planning to launch flights soon to
Al-Basrah in southern Iraq.

Iran and Iraq fought a war between 1980 and 1988, and civilian flights between them stopped.
