Iran To Resume Nuclear Fuel Research

Satellite photo of a nuclear facility in Iran (file photo) (AFP) 3 January 2006 -- Iran has announced it will resume its nuclear fuel research program within a matter of days.

The deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Saidi, told state TV on 3 January that Tehran has already informed the UN nuclear watchdog of its decision. Saidi said Iran intends to coordinate its research activities with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Iran suspended its nuclear research program in 2003 as part of a broader halt in its uranium-processing and -enrichment program agreed with the European Union.
