The 10 cabinet members belonging to the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party, or MPRP, triggered the crisis when they resigned.
The MPRP has dominated Mongolia's politics for most of the nation's 14 years of post-communist democracy.
Parliament debated well into the night before ratifying the mass resignation -- a move that will lead to Elbegdorj's ouster after less than two years in power.
Hundreds of protesters angry at MPRP's tactics took to the streets of the capital, Ulan Bator, yesterday and today.
The situation has reportedly eased today after the deployment of police and security forces.
