The court, which was set up by the United Nations, did not immediately address Milosevic's request for provisional release for medical treatment in Russia for a heart condition and high blood pressure.
The prosecution has opposed the request, fearing he may not return.
Russia said last week it would guarantee the return of Milosevic, who is charged on 66 counts of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in indictments covering conflicts in Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo in the 1990s.
The trial began almost four years ago.
