Reports Say Mladic Negotiating Surrender But Serbia Denies It

Ratko Mladic (left) is one of the most wanted fugitives in The Hague (epa) 21 February 2006 -- The Serbian government is denying several media reports that top war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic has been arrested.

The office of Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica says reports today that Mladic was captured or found are not correct.

The Associated Press -- citing an unidentified senior government official -- said Mladic had been located and authorities were negotiating his surrender. Other media outlets in Serbia and Bosnia reported Mladic was arrested in Belgrade and was being transported to Bosnia.

Mladic, a former Bosnian-Serb army commander, is Europe's second most-wanted war crimes suspect after Bosnian-Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic. Mladic is accused of orchestrating the 1995 Srebrenica massacre in which 8,000 Muslim men and boys died.

The UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague said tonight it had no information on Mladic.
