EU-3 Agree To Last-Minute Talks With Iran Before IAEA Meeting

Mohammad El-Baradei, head of the IAEA, which will meet on March 6 to consider Iran's nuclear program (file photo) (epa) March 2, 2006 -- Britain, France and Germany today agreed to last-minute talks with Iran before the UN nuclear agency meets to discuss Iran's nuclear program.

Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani, fresh from talks in Moscow on a Russian proposal to enrich Iran's uranium, is to meet with the "EU-3" diplomats tomorrow in Vienna.

The talks come before the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, meets on March 6 to discuss Iran's nuclear ambitions. What is said at the meeting could result in Iran being referred to the UN Security Council for possible punitive sanctions.

Larijani today said the Russian proposal to enrich Iran's uranium would be the "first victim" if Iran is referred to the Security Council.

Larijani today left Moscow for Vienna, after consultations on the proposal failed to reach a breakthrough.
