Four U.S. Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

(RFE/RL) March 12, 2006 -- The U.S. military says four U.S. soldiers were killed on March 12 in a roadside bombing in eastern Afghanistan.

A U.S. military spokesman, Colonel Jim Yonts, said the troops' armored vehicle hit an explosive device in the Pech Valley of Konar Province, where they were patrolling in an effort to keep a road open to traffic.

It was the deadliest attack in Afghanistan on U.S. forces in a month.
