Abkhazia Releases Georgian Journalists

(RFE/RL) March 25, 2006 -- Separatist authorities in Abkhazia have released the three Georgian television reporters they had arrested earlier this month on spying and border violation charges.

The journalists were handed over to Georgian authorities near the demarcation line that separates Abkhazia from the rest of Georgia.

The three journalists, Teia Sharia, Tariel Sokhadze, and Temur Eliava, were arrested while preparing a television report on Abkhazia's monasteries. An Abkhaz court had jailed them for three months pending their trial.
