Four Tajik Officers Convicted Of Corruption


(RFE/RL) April 3, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- A Tajik military court today found four officers from the Defense Ministry guilty of corruption and gave them prison sentences ranging from four to 13 years, RFE/RL's Tajik Service reports.

Court official Saifullo Giyoev told RFE/RL that Colonel Bakhtior Mirzoev was found guilty of accepting bribes to release conscripts from service and was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Three other officers who collaborated with Mirzoev were given prison sentences of four to seven years.

All four have appealed the verdict.
