Belarusian Opposition Leader May Face Six Years In Jail

Alyaksandr Kazulin (file photo) (RFE/RL) July 13, 2006 -- A Belarusian prosecutor today asked a regional court to sentence opposition leader Alyaksandr Kazulin to six years in prison for his part in a week of antigovernment demonstrations earlier this year.

The judge in the case had earlier in the day ordered Kazulin and media removed from court. Kazulin's defense attorney described the proceedings as "a farce."
