Afghanistan Begins Probe Into Deadly Air Strike


A U.S. helicopter in operation in Afghanistan (file photo) (AFP) July 16, 2006 – Afghan officials have begun an investigation into the reported deaths of a number of civilians during an air strike by U.S.-led forces.


The U.S. military claims that more than 40 Taliban were killed during the July 10 operation in the capital of Oruzgan Province, Tirin Kot. Residents, though, say at least four civilians, including children, were killed.


The investigation into the incident was launched on the orders of Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
