Saddam Hussein in court (file photo) (epa) October 9, 2006 -- A Kurdish woman today told the court hearing charges of genocide against the former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein that Iraqi Army forces had in 1988 buried alive members of her family after destroying their village.

Hussein and six of his former aides are being tried for war crimes allegedly committed in 1987-1988 during a campaign in which tens of thousands of Kurds were killed.

The trial, which is being held in Baghdad, will resume on October 10.
