A statement from the Defenders of Human Rights Center said the arrest of Ayatollah Seyyed Hossein Kazemeyni Boroujerdi runs "contrary to Iran's constitution and penal code" and urges the head of Iran's judiciary to examine the case personally.

Boroujerdi advocates the separation of religion and politics in Iran.
