France To Withdraw Special Forces From Afghanistan


French ISAF troops in Afghanistan (file photo) (epa) December 17, 2006 -- France will withdraw its special forces from Afghanistan in the coming weeks.

AFP reported that Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie made the announcement today during her visit to the Afghan capital, Kabul.

Some 200 French special-forces troops are currently stationed in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad. A total of 2,000 French troops are deployed in the country.
