Moldova Interested In EU, Neutral On NATO

President Vladimir Voronin, pictured at his inauguration in April 2005 (ITAR-TASS) December 20, 2006 -- Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin today described his country's foreign policy as "pro-Europe" in terms of the European Union, but "absolutely neutral" toward NATO.

Voronin told a news conference that neutrality is part of Moldova's constitution.

Moldova has a common border with Romania, which has been a NATO member since 2004, and will join the European Union on January 1.
