Uzbek Rights Activist Detained At Airport


(RFE/RL) TASHKENT, December 21, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- An Uzbek rights activist, Umida Noyazova, was today detained at Tashkent airport and some her equipment was confiscated.


Noyazova, who sometimes works with the U.S.-based organization Human Rights Watch, was returning to Uzbekistan from Kyrgyzstan when police detained her and took some of her computer equipment and computer discs.


It is unclear what the charges against her are.
