One NATO Soldier Killed In Afghan Operation


A British soldier on patrol in Afghanistan (file photo) (epa) January 15, 2007 -- NATO says its forces attacked a militant base in southern Afghanistan in an operation today that left one British soldier dead and several others wounded.


The British Defense Ministry confirmed the death and said it took place in the southern Helmand Province. No details were given of any militant casualties.


In Kandahar Province, meanwhile, NATO said a roadside explosion hit a convoy of NATO-led troops, wounding two soldiers. The blast occurred west of Kandahar city, where most of the troops are Canadian.
