Former U.S. Military Officers Call For Iran Talks

Iranian armed forces at a military parade in Tehran in September (epa) February 4, 2007 -- Three former high-ranking U.S. military officers have warned against any military attack on Iran, saying it would have "disastrous consequences" for security in the Middle East.

In a letter published in Britain's "Sunday Times" newspaper, they said the crisis over Iran's nuclear program must be resolved through diplomacy.

They urged Washington to open talks, "without preconditions," with Tehran.

The letter was signed by Lieutenant General Robert Gard, General Joseph Hoar, and Vice Admiral Jack Shanahan.
