Afghan Authorities Capture Senior Taliban Commander

(RFE/RL) February 14, 2007 -- Afghan authorities today announced the capture of a senior Taliban commander.

The Interior Ministry says Mullah Daud Trabi was captured in the eastern city of Khost on February 13. It says Trabi had been the Khost Province chief of the "vice and virtue" police during the Taliban rule, which lasted from 1996 to 2001.

Before his arrest, Trabi was involved in the insurgency against the Kabul government.
