Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev (file photo) (RFE/RL) February 19, 2007 (RFE/RL)  -- A new opposition movement today urged Kyrgyzstan's President Kurmanbek Bakiev to resign before his current term ends in 2010, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reported.

The statement by the United Front for a Worthy Future for Kyrgyzstan says the new president must be the initiator and guarantor of political reforms.

Former Prime Minister Feliks Kulov, who joined the opposition last week, was among the signatories of the declaration, as well as former parliament speaker Omurbek Tekebaev.
