Award-Winning Writer Jailed In Iran

Yaghub Yadali (file photo) (ISNA) April 20, 2007 --Yaghub Yadali, an Iranian writer who received a prestigious literary prize, has been jailed in Iran.

Yadali's wife, Akram Kabiri, was quoted by Iranian news agencies as saying that her husband has been in prison in the southwestern town of Yasuj for some 40 days.

She said Yadali has been charged with spreading lies in connection with two of his books that were published several years ago with the approval of Iran's Culture Ministry.

An Iran-based human rights group, the Society Defending The Rights Of Prisoners, has said that it is following Yadali's case.

Emad Baghi, a prominent member of the group, has said that Yadali has been charged with insulting one of Iran's minority groups in the two books.

There has been no official reaction from Iranian authorities on the case.
