Iraqi Children 'Caught In Worsening Tragedy'

Displaced Iraqi children in Baghdad (epa) May 23, 2007 -- The UN Children's Fund says Iraq's children are being caught up in a "rapidly worsening humanitarian tragedy" amid continuing violence in the country.

UNICEF said children make up half of the four million Iraqis who have fled their homes since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.

UNICEF said international aid has been generous but insufficient to meet the growing needs of Iraqi children.

UNICEF is appealing for $41.8 million over the next six months to provide vaccines, food, and clean water for children in Iraq and to help refugee children living outside Iraq
