Judge To Decide On Four Iranian-Americans Soon

Ali Reza Jamshidi (file photo) (Fars) June 12, 2007 -- Iran's Judiciary has said it will decide within days whether to indict or free four Iranian-Americans charged with endangering national security.

Ali Reza Jamshidi, a judicial spokesman, said a judge would complete his preliminary investigation into the charges "within the next two or three days."

Peace activist Ali Shakeri and two U.S.-Iranian scholars -- Haleh Esfandiari and Kian Tajbakhsh -- are in jail in Iran, accused of spying. A fourth U.S.-Iranian citizen, Radio Farda reporter Parnaz Azima, has been charged with "antirevolutionary" activities and is free on bail.

The announcement came as Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki warned that the United States would "regret" its detention of five Iranian officials by U.S. forces in Iraq, which has for months angered Tehran.
