Prague, 6 March 1997 (RFE/RL) - The Parliament of the self-declared Nagorno-Karabakh republic today -- in a session lasting only 15 minutes -- decided to suspend its normal activities and keep only a skeleton on its members to conduct some duties.
By a vote of 23 to 2, and 4 abstentions, the Parliament decided to send most of its members back to their former jobs and keep only the chairman, the secretary and two other members who chair a number of important committees.
One deputy told our correspondent that the decision was a measure to make coordination of government functions easier in a period of transition to market economy, while the region is under a virtual blockade. He also said that Karabakh will save about $150,000, which can be invested in the economy.
