Meanwhile, one soldier in the NATO-led international force was reported killed today, bringing to 700 the number of foreign troops killed this year in Afghanistan.
It's the highest death toll for foreign troops in Afghanistan since the Taliban were toppled in 2001.
On Dec. 16, U.S. President Barack Obama released a war strategy review showing U.S. and NATO forces are making progress against the Taliban and al Qaeda but that serious challenges remain.
It said the Taliban's momentum had been stopped in much of Afghanistan and reversed in some areas.
