Armenian, Azerbaijani FMs To Discuss Karabakh

YEREVAN -- The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan are due to discuss the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh in Kyiv on December 4.

Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian told journalists in Yerevan one day earlier that he and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Elmar Mamadyarov, will meet on the sidelines of a session of the OSCE Ministerial Council.

Two weeks ago, the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Serzh Sarkisian and Ilham Aliyev, discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict during face-to-face talks in Vienna.

The OSCE's Minsk Group -- co-chaired by France, Russia, and the United States -- issued a statement after the talks, saying that Sarkisian and Aliyev had agreed to advance negotiations toward a peaceful settlement.

The Armenian-populated region of Nagorno-Karabakh was seized from Azerbaijan by Armenian separatists during a devastating war in the 1990s.
