MOSCOW. July 17 (Interfax) - A Malaysian airliner was shot down
during a flight over Ukraine at an altitude of about 10,000 meters, an
aviation industry source said on Thursday.
A Malaysia Airlines Boeing was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala
Lumpur, the source told Interfax.
So to recap:
Reports say a Malaysian passenger plane has crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border.
Both Interfax and ITAR-TASS, citing aviation industry sources, said the plane was a Boeing 777 on a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.
The reports -- which have not been confirmed -- said the plane had 280 passengers and 15 crew on board.
They said the plane reportedly crashed in Ukrainian territory some 60 kilometers from the Russian border on July 17.
Interfax also cited a Ukrainian law enforcement source as saying the plane crashed near the town of Shakhtarsk in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region.
Lots of reports coming in now about separatist commander Strelkov boasting on his VKonakte page about downing a Ukrainian transport aircraft:
