From the Power Vertical podcast's very own Mark Galeotti:
The Crimean Desk of RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service has sent us these details about events at the Tatar-language TV station in Simferopol:
SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine -- Armed, masked men in unmarked military clothing have surrounded the headquarters of the only television channel broadcasting in the Crimean Tatar language on the annexed Black Sea peninsula.
Journalists with the channel, ATR, told RFE/RL that dozens of masked men surrounded the broadcaster's offices in the Crimean capital, Simferopol, on January 26.
Crimean Tatar activist Eskender Bariyev wrote on Facebook that searches were conducted in the television channel's headquarters.
ATR correspondent Shevket Namatullayev wrote on Facebook that representatives of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) and Investigative Committee were talking with the channel's management.
No other details are available.
Activists, community leaders, and rights groups say Crimean Tatars have faced discrimination, pressure, and abuse for their opposition to Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea from Ukraine last March.
