A Taliban truck bomb has killed two people and wounded more than 100, including 50 U.S. soldiers, in an attack on a NATO combat post in central Afghanistan, according to the U.S. Army and coalition forces.
The September 10 suicide attack on Combat Outpost Sayed Abad in Wardak Province came on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, which killed almost 3,000 people in the United States.
The Taliban claimed responsibility on its website.
No coalition forces were killed in the attack but the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said 77 of its personnel and 25 Afghan nationals were wounded.
A U.S. Army spokesman, Major David Eastburn, said 50 of the wounded were U.S. soldiers.
He said the explosion blew a 6-meter hole in a wall near the entrance to the outpost.
A statement from ISAF said it was carried out using an improvised explosive device inside a truck loaded with firewood.
The attack came after the Taliban vowed to keep fighting NATO forces in Afghanistan and accused the United States of using the 9/11 attacks as a pretext to invade the country.
