American Actor Malkovich's Premiere Blocked By Nationalist Protesters In Bulgaria
The premiere of a play directed by world-famous actor and director John Malkovich for Bulgaria's National Theater was disrupted by pro-Russian nationalist demonstrators. The 19th-century comedy Arms And The Man by Bernard Shaw eventually did premiere on November 7 in Sofia, but without an audience, which was kept outside by nationalist protesters who demanded the expulsion of Malkovich and a ban on the play, which they called “bullshit” and “anti-Bulgarian.”
