MINSK -- The leaders of the unregistered Youth Front movement in Belarus have asked the authorities to allow them to hold a founding congress in 30 cities across the country, RFE/RL's Belarus Service reports.
If the founding congress takes place, the movement will be eligible for official registration.
Movement activist Mikola Dzemidenka said that this is the fifth attempt by the Youth Front to get officially registered. He said there is only slight hope that the founding congress will be allowed to be held.
The Youth Front has been trying to register in Belarus since 2000. It was registered in the Czech Republic in 2007 as an international movement.
