Relatives of the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre have lost their bid in a Dutch court to sue the United Nations for compensation.
The appeals court in The Hague said that the UN has immunity from prosecution enshrined in international conventions that established the world body.
Some 8,000 Muslim men and boys were murdered in July 1995 by Bosnian Serb forces who overran the Bosnian enclave despite the presence of Dutch UN peacekeepers.
A group called the Mothers of Srebrenica wants to sue the UN and the Netherlands for failing to protect the enclave.
Today's appeals decision upholds a 2008 ruling of a lower Dutch court.
