QUETTA, Pakistan -- Gunmen have shot dead the widely respected rector of a top private school in the Pakistani city of Quetta.
Fazle Bari -- top administrator at the private Tameer-e Nau boys' college -- was killed in a drive-by shooting today as he was traveling to work.
A senior police officer in Quetta, Tariq Manzoor, said Bari died on the spot and his driver was injured.
RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal correspondent in Quetta reports that more than 250 students later blocked a main road in the city to protest the killing.
That demonstration prompted police to fire tear gas to disperse the crowd.
At least 18 people have been victims of targeted shooting and bomb attacks during the past five days in Quetta and other parts of Baluchistan Province.
