Iran's ISNA news agency is reporting that 91 people were arrested on the first anniversary of the country's disputed presidential election.
The election, on June 12, 2009, in which President Mahmud Ahmadinejad was declared the victor amid widespread allegations of fraud, led to the greatest social unrest seen in the country since its 1979 Islamic revolution.
Tehran province governor-general Morteza Tamaddon said that some of those detained were suspected of ties to the outlawed rebel group People's Mujahedeen. Police chief Hossein Sajadinia was quoted as saying that the cases of the 91 people detained "have been forwarded to the judiciary."
The anniversary this year passed without the massive street protests that followed the vote in June 2009, but there were reports of skirmishes at some universities.
