CHISINAU (RFE/RL) -- Moldova's Constitutional Court will consider on April 12 the president's request to recount the vote in disputed parliamentary elections.

Last weekend's election was won by the Communist Party of President Vladimir Voronin. The result led to violent protests in which demonstrators ransacked parliament and the president's office.

Voronin accused the pro-Western and liberal opposition of plotting a coup. He also accused Romania of fomenting the turmoil.

In the latest development, opposition leaders say they also want a check of voter lists, to ensure they are accurate. However Voronin opposes this demand.

More demonstrations have been called for April 12.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
