A graphic video ostensibly shot on the streets of central Tehran during the postelection protests has quickly become an Internet symbol of the protesters' struggle against what they say was a rigged presidential vote on June 12.
The film shows a young woman believed to be named Neda who has been shot in the chest -- apparently fatally -- while protesting the June 12 election results on the streets of the capital with her father.
Passersby try to help the woman as blood pours from her nose and mouth.
Neda's full name and fate have not been confirmed, highlighting the challenges journalists have been facing when reporting from Iran. Verifying information has been difficult for foreign journalists, who have been barred from covering demonstrations and other public events.
At least 23 people are believed to have been killed so far in clashes with security forces and Iranian militia.
