Pakistani officials say that one of their country's citizens, a student, has reportedly been killed and 15 others taken hostage in Kyrgyzstan's volatile south.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said today authorities are working to confirm the reports.

At least 84 people have been killed and 1,000 injured since ethnic riots began on the night of June 10 in the southern Kyrgyz cities of Osh and Jalal-Abad.

Pakistan says there are at least 1,200 Pakistanis living in Kyrgyzstan, many of them students.
