DUSHANBE -- Tajik pop star Farzona Khurshed has gone on trial in Dushanbe on charges of helping her fiance flee a courtroom, RFE/RL's Tajik Service reports.
The 20-year-old Khurshed and her sister, Shabnami Surayois, are among Tajikistan's most popular singers.
Khurshed's fiance, Farrukh Ruziev, was standing trial for forgery in a Dushanbe court last month when she helped him escape by car.
The couple was later detained by police at the Varzob resort outside Dushanbe.
Khurshed pleaded not guilty, claiming she did not know her fiance was on trial.
She said that a police officer at the court -- who is also on trial with Khurshed -- had allowed Ruziev to talk to her, leading her to believe he was free to go.
