UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says he hopes an Iranian nuclear fuel swap agreement with Brazil and Turkey will lead to the end of Tehran's row with the West over its nuclear program.
Iran's official IRNA news agency, meanwhile, reports Tehran will hand an official letter to the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency on May 24 about the deal, under which Iran will send some of its enriched uranium to Turkey in exchange for fuel rods for a medical research reactor.
Despite the agreement, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council have agreed a draft resolution on a new set of sanctions against Iran.
Turkey and Brazil -- both currently nonpermanent members of the Security Council -- and Iran have said there is no point to further sanctions because of the deal, but Western powers suspect it is an Iranian tactic to avert or delay sanctions.
