An Afghan soldier has been sentenced to death for the killing of four French soldiers.

Defense Ministry spokesman Zahir Azimi said on July 17 that a military court in Kabul ordered the solider, Abdul Sabor, to be hanged.

The sentence can still be appealed.

The four French soldiers were gunned down on January 20 in the Tagab district of the eastern Kapisa Province during a joint training operation involving NATO-led troops and Afghan soldiers.

It was one of a series of incidents in which members of the Afghan security forces have attacked their foreign allies.

In a recent incident, three British soldiers were shot dead by a man in an Afghan police uniform in the southern province of Helmand earlier this month
