KABUL -- Afghanistan's parliament has delayed a confirmation vote for four top security posts -- the ministers of defense, interior, and border and tribal affairs, as well as the director of the national intelligence agency.

Lawmakers want Afghan President Hamid Karzai to send one of his deputies to introduce the nominees to parliament on September 12, insisting Karzai must follow standard rules of parliamentary order.

On September 2, Karzai nominated former Interior and Defense Minister Bismillah Mohammadi as the new defense minister and Ghulam Mujtaba Patang as the new interior minister.

Former Kandahar Province Governor Asadullah Khalid was nominated to head the Afghan intelligence agency.

Haji Azizullah Din Mohammad, a former governor of both Kabul and Nangarhar provinces, was nominated as the new minister of border and tribal affairs.
