Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who arrived in India on a state visit on February 2, is set to hold talks today with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Karzai today attended an environmental conference, where he said the effects of war and pollution had taken their toll on his country.

Last week Karzai accused NATO-led forces fighting the Taliban insurgency of illegally cutting down up to 4,000 trees in the southeastern Ghazni province.

India has invested heavily in infrastructure and reconstruction aid, and remains the fifth-largest donor for Afghanistan. This has raised some concern in Pakistan, which is wary of growing Indian influence in Afghanistan.

After India, Karzai is to travel to Germany to attend a major security conference in Munich.
