Afghan Bus Strikes Land Mine, Killing 18

A passenger bus in southern Afghanistan struck a land mine today, killing at least 18 civilians.

Nimroz Province police chief General Abdul Jabar Pordeli told RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan that about 30 people, including women and children, were injured.

Eighteen of them are in critical condition.

Jabar blamed the Taliban for the incident, but no one has claimed responsibility.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
