Four people wearing masks attacked journalist Devid Gobechia and activist Lia Agrba in Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia. Abkhazia's de facto Interior Ministry said on September 15 that police are investigating the incident. The statement came shortly after Gobechia said the attackers used pepper spray against him and Agrba, seriously injuring their eyes. He added that the attackers filmed him being beaten and took away a bag that Agrba was carrying. Gobechia said he had been followed for days before the attack. Earlier in September, Agrba filed a complaint with the de facto Prosecutor-General's Office, accusing a member of an advisory body to the region's leader of slander.
