Armenia has approved a draft amendment to the law on military service that would allow women to serve in the country's armed forces on a voluntary basis. Under the amendment, women will be able to serve for a period of six months, after which they will have the option to switch to a five-year contract. It's expected to come into force before the winter conscription. At present, women serve in the Armenian military on a contract basis only.
