Bahraini authorities have released 23 Shi'ite activists held on terrorism charges and pardoned two others living abroad.

An opposition member of parliament said that on the whole 100 prisoners had been released, but dozens remained in jail.

He said those released on February 22 included 21 common criminals.

The release of political prisoners has been a demand of protesters seeking an elected government in Bahrain, where seven people were killed and hundreds wounded in protests last week.
