Belarus's authoritarian leader, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, has appointed Syarhey Aleynik as the country's new foreign minister following the unexpected death of Uladzimer Makey in late November at the age of 64. The cause of Makey's death has not been officially revealed. Aleynik, 57, is a veteran at the Foreign Ministry. In early 2022, he was appointed to the post of the First Deputy Foreign Minister.
