Belarus has criticized new U.S. economic sanctions as "an act of aggression."

Speaking on August 15 during a visit to Moscow, Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said the U.S. sanctions imposed last week in response to Minsk's crackdown on political opposition was a blow to companies with ties to Russia.

The sanctions concern four firms owned or controlled by a company linked to Belarus's authoritarian president, Alyaksandr Lukashenka.
